Whoever believes that learning has to be at a desk
or inside is really missing out.
or inside is really missing out.
Life is full of fun alternatives and exciting opportunities.
I never thought that I would home school. It was not something originally planned or even something that entered our minds. Our oldest, J, is a happily enrolled Sophomore at a magnet high school. Our youngest, Bean, has had repeat negative bullying experiences at two different schools.
Her experiences was not the typical kid's misbehaving situations, it was excessive, repetitive bullying that included verbal and physical contact. Sadly, nothing was done to ensure a safe learning environment. We were already frustrated at the current curriculum, but our decision was finalized after watching nothing being done to ensure her safety or the notion of actions-consequences or the expectations of accountability and responsibility
So, now Bean is beginning her 3rd grade home school classes with me. I warned her she would probably rather be at school... I have high expectations. The notion of teaching is not foreign. Besides my 3 degrees (Organizational Management, IT, & Master of Public Health) I am also very close to a BFA and Master of Education (just short my student teaching and a class or two). Even though it is not a requirement, I am grateful to have a background that will help me out as I start this new journey.
I have been putting a curriculum together quickly, but hope to share the good and bad along the way here. Like an Internet Blogging Journal. So hold on to your socks, we are planning a variety of new activities and adventures as we begin homeschooling.
